Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said there is currently no plan to change interbank transaction fees.
He disclosed the information during the question-and-answer session in parliament today (21 April).
The minister said 46 banks in the country are providing online banking services through their own websites or mobile applications.
He said fees for intrabank transfers are determined by individual banks and are published in their respective ‘schedule of charges’ on their websites.
He further said, “Customers can complete interbank transactions using systems operated by Bangladesh Bank, including Bangladesh Electronic Fund Transfer Network [BEFTN], Real Time Gross Settlement [RTGS] and National Payment Switch Bangladesh [NPSB].”
Transactions through BEFTN are free of cost, while RTGS transactions cost up to Tk100 (including VAT) per transfer, and NPSB transactions cost up to Tk10 (including VAT) per transfer, Khosru added.
The minister noted that interbank transaction fees are set by Bangladesh Bank.
