New Details in the Mass Shooting That Left 8 Dead in Louisiana
On Monday, city and state officials gave updates on a mass shooting in Shreveport, La., in which a gunman opened fire on his family, killing eight children and injuring two others.

“In my eight years of being on the city Council and my 24 years of being a firefighter, this has to be the worst event that I’ve seen.” 5:59 a.m., dispatch was advised that approximately nine individuals resided at the location. The caller further stated that the suspect, identified as Shamar Elkins, had shot everyone inside the home. 6:07 a.m., a second call was received regarding a shooting in the 500 block of Harrison Street. The caller stated that her boyfriend had shot her, taking her three children and fled the scene. At 6:10 a.m., dispatch linked the Harrison Street shooting with the shooting on West 79th Street and that they all were related.”
