The National Citizen Party (NCP) has threatened to launch a movement with Chattogram residents if the government does not reconsider the appointment of Shahadat Hossain as administrator of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), questioning the legality of the decision.
NCP leaders made the announcement at a press conference at the party’s city office at Ali Plaza in Chawkbazar today (26 October).
Arif Moinuddin, NCP Chattogram city member secretary, said Shahadat’s tenure as CCC mayor had ended, making his appointment as administrator illegal, unreasonable and contrary to public expectations.
He said the government should face legal action over the decision and demanded that the appointment be cancelled immediately and a new administrator appointed through a neutral and transparent process.
Mir Mohammad Shoaib, NCP Chattogram city convener, who presided over the press conference, said imposing such decisions on Chattogram residents while disregarding public opinion was unacceptable.
He warned that the party would launch a strong movement alongside city residents if the government failed to reconsider the appointment.
NCP Chattogram city senior joint conveners Jasim Uddin Opel and Sajjad Hossain, organisational secretary Zubayer Hossain, and leaders from different levels of the party were also present.
The leaders also highlighted current political challenges and public suffering, calling for effective measures to address them.
