A nationwide measles-rubella vaccination campaign will begin on Monday (20 April) to curb the ongoing outbreak, targeting 1,78,40,536 children aged between six months and under five years.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain announced the programme in a video message today (19 April), urging parents to ensure their children receive the vaccine.
He also reassured the public that there is no shortage of vaccines and called on people not to be misled by misinformation.
Earlier, to contain the spread of measles, the government launched a phased measles-rubella campaign starting on 5 April in 30 upazilas and 13 municipalities, covering around 1.2 million children.
The programme was later expanded to Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation, Mymensingh City Corporation and Barishal City Corporation from 12 April, aiming to vaccinate 9,76,838 children.
According to officials, a total of 1,953,843 children have already been vaccinated in two phases of the campaign as of today.
The Directorate General of Health Services has advised that children who currently have a fever or are unwell should wait until recovery before receiving the vaccine.
Additionally, children should not be given the vaccine if four weeks have not yet passed since their previous dose.
