The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has warned businesses and individuals against the use of unlicensed walkie-talkies and other wireless communication devices.
In a notice issued today (25 June), BTRC said joint drives with law enforcement agencies are underway in Dhaka and across the country against illegal telecommunication equipment and installations.
It said under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act, 2001 (Amendment-2026), obtaining frequency allocation and a wireless equipment licence from the commission is mandatory for the use, possession, import, marketing or operation of any type of walkie-talkie or wireless communication device.
The regulatory commission urged businesses, security firms, hotels, restaurants and shopping malls to ensure all wireless communication equipment has the required approval and licence.
Crackdown on illegal wireless devices will continue, with violators facing legal action under existing laws, it added.
