Most land acquisition hurdles for Dhaka-Sylhet six-lane project to be resolved by Oct: Minister

The government expects to resolve most of the land acquisition-related complications for the Dhaka-Sylhet six-lane highway project by October, while the Sylhet section is targeted for completion by 2028, Commerce, Industry and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said today (30 September).

He made the remarks while inspecting the progress of the six-lane construction work in Sylhet’s Osmaninagar.

“The project is being implemented in different phases, including the Sylhet section and the sections outside Sylhet. Recently, the road transport minister inspected the project work up to Habiganj. According to the plan of those concerned, the entire highway is expected to be completed between the end of 2028 and the middle of 2029,” Muktadir said.

Regarding the Sylhet section, he said, “We hope the work on this section will be completed by 2028.”

On land acquisition, the minister said the process was ongoing and most of the 113 related cases had already been settled.

“The land acquisition process required for the project is ongoing. Most of the 113 cases related to this have been settled. Work is underway to resolve the remaining cases quickly. We hope most of the complications related to land acquisition will be resolved by October,” he said.

During the inspection, Sylhet WASA Chairman Miftah Siddiqui, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP President Nasim Hossain, General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pinky Saha and officials concerned were present.

Earlier, the minister inspected the six-lane construction work on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Lalabazar area of South Surma.
