Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has been appointed commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The appointment was announced in a gazette notification issued today (17 May) by the Police-1 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs, signed by Deputy Secretary Tausif Ahmed by order of the president.
Before the appointment, Mosleh Uddin Ahmed was serving as additional inspector general of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He was appointed to CID on 16 March this year.
A 15th BCS police cadre officer, Mosleh joined the Bangladesh Police in 1995.
Prior to his CID role, he served as additional inspector general at the Logistics and Asset Acquisition Directorate of Police Headquarters.
During his career, he also served in DMP and Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), alongside postings as superintendent of police in districts including Kushtia, Bhola and Sherpur.
He also served as a police officer in the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur under the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
Earlier, former DMP commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali resigned from service on 25 February this year, citing “personal and family reasons” following the 13th national parliamentary election.
After his resignation, Additional Police Commissioner Md Sarwar served as acting commissioner until his retirement on 14 May upon completion of his service tenure.
Following Sarwar’s retirement, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Nazrul Islam took charge as acting commissioner based on seniority and had been performing the responsibilities over the past few days.
