Moghbazar Ad-din hospital gets licence back subject to conditions

The government has withdrawn its order cancelling the licence of Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar and allowed it to resume operations subject to conditions.

The decision was announced in a notification issued by the Health Services Division today (27 July).

According to the notification, following an appeal filed by the hospital authorities over the deaths of six newborns at the facility in May, a probe committee was instructed on 15 July to conduct an on-site inspection and submit its report within three working days.

The government said the committee’s findings following the inspection were satisfactory, prompting it to withdraw the licence cancellation order and permit the hospital to resume operations.

However, the approval has been granted subject to three conditions.

Under the conditions, the hospital must continue to comply with the provisions of The Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance, 1982. It must also complete the recruitment of the required number of duty doctors and nurses in line with the terms of its licence at the earliest opportunity.

The notification further said that the authorities empowered by the government may take legal action at any time if the hospital fails to comply with the licence conditions.

The government cancelled the licence of Ad-din Medical College Hospital in June based on the findings of a probe committee formed after the deaths of six newborns. 

The hospital authorities subsequently appealed the decision, prompting the government to order a fresh investigation.

After expressing satisfaction with the latest probe report, the government has now withdrawn the licence cancellation order and allowed the hospital to resume its activities.
