The education administration has withdrawn its decision to form an investigation committee into the viral social media video of Sylhet schoolteacher Beauty Rani Pal after finding no evidence of wrongdoing and following a report by The Business Standard.
Sylhet District Primary Education Officer Sakhawat Ershad confirmed the decision this afternoon (27 July), saying no investigation committee would be formed over the incident.
Earlier in the day, The Business Standard published a report titled, “Bobby sees no wrongdoing in Sylhet teacher’s viral video as education authorities plan probe.”
Speaking to The Business Standard, Ershad said the authorities had initially planned to investigate the matter but later reversed the decision following a preliminary inquiry.
“We had decided to investigate the video. However, as you have seen, the state minister said yesterday that he found nothing wrong. We also conducted a preliminary inquiry and found no wrongdoing. So, there is no need to form an investigation committee unnecessarily,” he said.
The controversy began after Beauty Rani Pal, headteacher of Pitaitikor Government Primary School in Fenchuganj upazila, posted a Facebook reel on Thursday (23 July) featuring the song Sraboner Meghgulo.
The video showed her walking around the school premises wearing a saree, triggering criticism and trolling on social media, with some users demanding action against her.
However, teachers from across the country, along with many other social media users, later expressed solidarity with Beauty by posting their own videos using the same song.
A review of her Facebook profile shows she regularly shares videos of classroom teaching, physical exercise, music-based learning activities, and tree plantation and sapling distribution programmes involving her students.
Fenchuganj Upazila Education Officer Mohammad Sohel Molla yesterday told that the administration was considering an investigation to determine whether the teacher had violated any code of conduct.
A day later, the authorities dropped the plan after concluding there was no evidence warranting a formal investigation.
