Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 973 as six more die

Six more children died from symptoms consistent with measles in the 24 hours to 8am today (31 August), bringing Bangladesh’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 973.

The number of suspected measles deaths rose to 874, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths reached 99.

Authorities reported 1,162 new suspected measles cases during the period. This brought the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 1,57,991.

Meanwhile, 94 new confirmed measles cases were recorded. The total number of laboratory-confirmed infections reached 19,312.

Since 15 March, 1,38,445 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country. Of them, 1,33,404 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
