A young man was hacked to death over previous enmity in Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur yesterday (26 June), police confirmed.
The victim, Suman Sheikh, 24, son of Alauddin Sheikh of Borobhag village, died while undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital last night.
Confirming the incident, Alfadanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Fakir Saidur Rahman said the killing stemmed from previous enmity.
He said police recovered the body after Suman died during treatment and sent it to the morgue for an autopsy. “We have initially learnt that he was attacked by members of the rival Hossain group. Legal action is under way,” he said.
According to police and local sources, the attack took place around 5pm yesterday when Suman was riding a motorcycle past Ukil’s house in the Purbapara area of Borobhag village.
A group of unidentified assailants, who had allegedly been lying in wait, launched a sudden attack on him with sharp weapons, inflicting severe injuries before fleeing the scene.
Locals rescued Suman in a critical condition and took him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 8:30pm while undergoing treatment.
The locals also claimed that Suman was attacked by members of the Haat Kata Hossain group. However, police said the matter is still under investigation.
News of his death triggered tension in Borobhag village, with residents report a tense atmosphere prevailing in the area.
Police have deployed additional personnel to prevent any untoward incidents or clashes.
