Lawyer’s semi-decomposed body recovered from rented house in Lalbagh

Police recovered the semi-decomposed body of a 47-year-old lawyer from a rented house in Lalbagh’s Shahidnagar area of Old Dhaka around 11am today (12 September).

The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain. His family lives in Goalgaon village of Munshiganj’s Gazaria upazila, while he lived alone in Dhaka.

The body was recovered from a tin-shed house in Lane 3 of Bowbazar and later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

According to police, Anwar was a lawyer at the Judge Court but had not been regularly practising since 2012. He was reportedly suffering from depression and used drugs.

Lalbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Jamil told The Business Standard that Anwar had rented the tin-shed house on 1 August.

His room contained little more than a wardrobe, he added.

“He [Anwar] last spoke to his family on Thursday. So, we suspect he may have died that day,” the officer said.

Police also recovered yaba from the room, he added.

The OC also said Anwar’s sister and brother-in-law had arrived and told police that he had been depressed.

Police also suspected that he was drug-dependent and had died of a stroke, he said, adding, “The exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy report.”
