Jamaat candidate submits nomination for Thakurgaon-1 by-election

Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Delawar Hossain, backed by the 11-party alliance, submitted his nomination papers today (26 September) for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election.

Delawar submitted the papers to the Returning Officer and District Election Officer Kamrul Islam at the district election office around noon.

Local Jamaat leaders and activists accompanied him.

Before submitting his nomination papers, a prayer and discussion meeting was organised by the Thakurgaon district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami. Delawar attended the event as the chief guest.  

Delawar is a former central president of Islami Chhatra Shibir and a member of Jamaat-e-Islami’s central executive council.

He also serves as assistant secretary of the party’s Dhaka South City unit and has been nominated by Jamaat-e-Islami as its parliamentary candidate for Thakurgaon-1.

The Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary seat became vacant after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir became president.

According to the election schedule, the deadline for submitting nomination papers is tomorrow (27 September), scrutiny will take place on 29 September, and the last date for withdrawal is 7 October.

Electoral symbols will be allocated on 8 October, and voting will be held on 29 October.
