The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) today (7 July) handed over 10 Bangladeshi nationals to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through the Tamabil land port in Sylhet after they completed prison terms in India for illegal entry.
The handover took place around noon at the Tamabil Immigration Police Checkpost in Gowainghat upazila.
Confirming the matter, Tamabil Immigration Police In-Charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Bazlur Rashid Md Bazlur Rashid said the 10 Bangladeshis were handed over to local police after the completion of legal formalities in the presence of BGB, BSF, and law enforcement officials from both countries.
“Police later released them in the custody of their respective family members,” he told The Business Standard.
According to sources at the Tamabil Immigration Police, the returnees had entered India illegally through border points at Kaliganj in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj and Gucchagram village in Sylhet’s Gowainghat upazila.
BSF and Indian police arrested them on charges of illegal entry and later produced them before a court, which sent them to prison.
After serving their sentences, the Bangladeshis were repatriated following the completion of legal formalities at the request of the Bangladeshi authorities.
