The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 today (3 August) ordered investigators to complete the investigation into a crimes against humanity case over the killing of 17 people in Dhaka’s Jatrabari during the July Uprising within two months and submit the report by 4 October.
The order was passed by a three-member tribunal headed by Justice Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury after four accused, including former Dhaka-5 Awami League lawmaker Kazi Monirul Islam Monu, were produced before the court, confirmed Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed.
The tribunal also directed its investigation agency to comply with the order and submit the probe report by the scheduled date.
Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed represented the prosecution during the hearing.
The tribunal had earlier, on 22 July, ordered the production of the four accused.
After they were produced before the tribunal today, they were formally shown arrested in the crimes against humanity case.
The four accused are former Dhaka-5 MP Kazi Monirul Islam Monu, former Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan, former general secretary of Jatrabari thana Awami League Harunur Rashid Munna, and former councillor of ward no. 63 of the Dhaka South City Corporation Shafiqul Islam Khan.
According to Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed, 17 people were killed in Jatrabari on 19 and 20 July 2024 during the July Uprising.
He said the investigation has found the involvement of the four accused, who are already in jail in connection with other cases. They were brought before the tribunal under production warrants to be shown arrested in the case.
