‘Hello DC’ complaint leads to swift removal of garbage pile in Keraniganj

A long-standing garbage pile in front of Kalatia High School in Keraniganj, Dhaka, was removed shortly after a complaint was lodged through the “Hello DC” app.

Today (10 August), Dhaka District Commissioner Farida Khanom forwarded the complaint to the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and instructed him to take immediate action.

According to the district administration, household waste from Kalatia Bazar and surrounding areas had long been dumped in the Kalatia Canal and beneath the bridge, creating a large pile that caused foul odours and environmental pollution.

Located in front of the school, the site had caused considerable inconvenience to students, teachers, pedestrians and local residents, with students having to pass through the garbage and foul smell on their way to school.

The complaint brought the issue to the district administration’s attention, prompting authorities to remove the accumulated waste and clean the area.

Local residents said waste had been dumped there regularly for a long time without effective action and expressed satisfaction over its swift removal following the complaint.

The district administration said the “Hello DC” service was launched to ensure the prompt resolution of public grievances. Complaints are addressed through the relevant government departments and upazila administrations.

Farida Khanom said the platform was playing an effective role in resolving citizens’ problems.

She urged residents not to dump waste indiscriminately and said maintaining clean public spaces was a collective responsibility.

She added that efforts to address citizens’ complaints promptly through the “Hello DC” platform would continue.
