Former International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) prosecutor Barrister Tureen Afroz has been shown arrested in a case filed by her brother over allegations of occupying family property and forgery.
The order was issued by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain today (8 June) following an application from the complainant side.
Lawyer Zakir Hossain, representing the plaintiff, confirmed the matter.
According to the case statement, the dispute originated over the possession and alleged forgery of family property in the capital’s Uttara area.
In the complaint filed by Shah Nawaz Ahmed, it is alleged that the accused, Tureen Afroz, attempted to take over their ancestral property by exerting influence and using fraudulent means.
It is further stated that after their father’s death, Afroz allegedly created a fake affidavit to claim ownership of the property.
The complaint also alleges that she entered the plaintiff’s mother’s flat, exerted influence, physically assaulted her, and took away important documents and deeds.
The allegations further state that Afroz threatened the complainant and his family members with death, leaving them in a prolonged state of insecurity.
The investigation officer of the case, Police Inspector Mominul Islam of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), recently submitted a report against the accused. Following this, the complainant filed an application to show her arrested in the case.
Police arrested Afroz from her residence in Uttara on 7 April last year. The following day, the Dhaka CMM Court granted her four days’ remand in an attempted murder case. She has remained in jail since then.
