A fire at an auction shed inside Chattogram Port was brought under control within 30 minutes this morning (25 June), marking the second fire-related incident at the port in three days.
The blaze broke out at around 8:45am at the auction shed located near the port stadium, according to Chattogram Port Acting Secretary Mohammad Nasir Uddin.
Upon receiving the information, four units of the port’s fire service rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control within half an hour, he said.
“The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be determined after an investigation,” Nasir added.
No casualties were reported immediately.
The latest incident comes just days after a fire broke out in a Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) crane at the port’s New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), the busiest container-handling facility at Chattogram Port.
The crane caught fire at around 2:30pm on 22 June. The blaze later spread to two containers before being brought under control by firefighters.
Following the incident, the port authority formed an investigation committee to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
