The two were killed in a mob beating on the evening of 5 August 2024, when they were allegedly trying to leave the area following the fall of the Awami League government.
Police later filed a case with Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station over their deaths.
The court subsequently ordered that the bodies be exhumed for autopsies as part of the investigation and legal proceedings.
Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Protyay Hashem of the district administration and Sub-Inspector Chanda Mia, the investigating officer in the case, were present during the exhumation.
Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Foyez Ahmed said police applied to the deputy commissioner to appoint an executive magistrate after receiving the court’s directive.
Following approval from the deputy commissioner, the bodies were exhumed in accordance with the court order, he said.
Selim Khan was chairman of Lakshmipur Model Union Parishad in Chandpur Sadar and president of the activities-banned Awami League’s union unit. He also owned film production and distribution company Shapla Media.
His son Shanto Khan was an actor in the film industry.
Selim Khan had faced allegations involving illegal sand extraction, irregularities in land acquisition for Chandpur Science and Technology University and revenue evasion.
He was also reportedly facing several cases, including those filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission and cases related to alleged revenue evasion.
