The government has dismissed former Rajshahi Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Tutul Chakraborty after a departmental inquiry found that he had misrepresented his rank to gain access to an airport VIP lounge and left his workplace without following official procedures.
A notification issued on Wednesday (7 October), signed by Home Ministry Discipline-1 Wing Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury on behalf of the president, said the allegations of misconduct had been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
Tutul had earlier been placed under temporary suspension and attached to the office of the DIG of Rajshahi Range. He has been absconding since 23 January this year, according to the notification.
According to the notification, Tutul was serving as an additional DIG in Rajshahi when he was granted leave from 14 to 18 November 2025.
However, on 13 November, before the leave period began, he left his workplace without submitting the required departure report in accordance with service rules.
The notification said he also concealed his actual identity and introduced himself as the DIG of Rajshahi Range to use the VIP lounge at Shah Makhdum Airport that day. He subsequently travelled to Dhaka on a US-Bangla Airlines flight.
The document added that Tutul had used the airport’s VIP lounge on several previous occasions by identifying himself as a DIG.
The incidents came to the attention of various intelligence agencies and severely damaged the public image of the police, it said.
Following the alleged misconduct, Police Headquarters sent a letter recommending departmental action against Tutul. A departmental case was initiated against him on 5 February this year.
He was subsequently served a show-cause notice but neither submitted a reply nor sought an extension of the deadline, according to the notification.
The government said the allegations had been established and dismissed him from service as a major disciplinary penalty.
