An elderly woman was murdered in Jashore, allegedly by her daughter-in-law, and her body was recovered wrapped in a sack from a house in the Bejpara area last night (21 April).
The deceased was identified as Sakina Begum, 60, wife of Lal Chand Khalifa.
Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Bakar confirmed the incident and said police have taken the accused housewife, Marium Khatun, into custody.
Police further said Sakina Begum’s son Shahidul, left home for his shop around 9am yesterday.
Before leaving, his wife, Marium, told him to eat outside, saying no food had been cooked, and when he asked about his mother, he was told she had gone out.
Around 10pm, Shahidul returned home but could not find his mother.
His wife again said she had not returned, raising suspicion, following which he informed the police.
Later, around 12:30am, Shahidul found a sack containing a body in front of the house. He and his sister Shahida Begum identified it as Sakina Begum. Police later recovered the body.
Abu Bakar said efforts are underway to arrest those involved, and a briefing will be held soon.
