Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has intensified enforcement of traffic rules in the capital using CCTV footage.
Through the ‘e-traffic prosecution’ system, automated notices are being sent to vehicle owners and drivers involved in violations of traffic rules, illegal parking, unfit or unregistered vehicles, and obstruction of roads.
The warning was issued in a public statement signed by acting DMP Commissioner Md Sarwar today (3 May).
According to the statement, recipients of the notice must appear at the relevant traffic division or DMP headquarters and settle fines under the Road Transport Act 2018 via banks or mobile banking.
Failure to comply with the notice may result in further legal action, including summon or arrest warrant, the statement said.
Authorities have also warned the public to avoid any financial transactions or sharing personal information outside the official process.
Any fraudulent attempt to harass anybody by sending false CCTV footage would be reported immediately to the nearest police station or traffic office.
The DMP further noted that AI-powered CCTV cameras have been installed at key intersections across Dhaka to detect traffic rules violations such as ignoring red lights, crossing stop lines, driving on the wrong side, unauthorised passenger pickup, illegal parking, and blocking designated lanes.
