The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) yesterday (4 August) announced temporary traffic restrictions and diversions around the Central Shaheed Minar from 5:00am today (5 August) to facilitate programmes marking the second anniversary of the 2024 July Uprising.
According to a public notice, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will organise a programme at the Central Shaheed Minar to lay wreaths and pay tribute to the martyrs of the July Uprising.
Under the temporary traffic arrangements, vehicles travelling from Farmgate towards Shahbagh will be diverted via Hotel InterContinental Crossing and Kakrail Road.
Vehicles coming from GPO via Matsya Bhaban Crossing towards Shahbagh will be diverted through High Court Crossing and Shahbagh Crossing.
Vehicles approaching Shahbagh from Science Laboratory Crossing will have to travel via Nilkhet, Azimpur and Chankharpul, or through Bakshibazar and Kazi Alauddin Road, depending on their destination.
The DMP also announced alternative routes for vehicles travelling from Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi, Asad Gate, Elephant Road and other adjoining areas.
The police requested motorists to follow the temporary traffic arrangements and cooperate with the authorities to avoid inconvenience.
