Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir today (8 May) said the chaotic situation within the Bangladesh Police has been “largely” resolved.
“There was a state of disorder within the police force, and we have been able to bring it under control to a large extent,” he said at the inauguration ceremony of a new police outpost at Khilkhet area of the capital.
Speaking about the upcoming first Police Week, he said, “During this Police Week, the prime minister, the home minister, and others involved with the home ministry will provide us with guidance on making the police more disciplined and people-friendly.”
Referring to the government’s election manifesto, which included restoring law and order, the IGP said, “The government is now very sincere and sympathetic towards us. To ensure safe living for the people, the long-standing demands of the police are being met promptly.”
“Previously, bureaucratic complications meant that decisions on files were delayed. That is no longer the case. Times have changed. The new government has started work with renewed energy, and it is fully supporting efforts to improve law and order as expected,” Fakir added.
Regarding the inauguration of the new outpost, the IGP said, “The new outpost was essential to maintain law and order in the expanded area, ensure public safety, and bring police services closer to residents.”
