Dhaka South opens Kamrangirchar bridge to pedestrians after 25 days of renovation

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has reopened the Kamrangirchar iron bridge for public use after completing its renovation in 25 days.

Dhaka South Administrator Mohammad Abdus Salam officially inaugurated the bridge as the chief guest today (28 August), with Hamidur Rahman, MP for Dhaka-7, present as a special guest, according to a press release. 

Renovations to the 145-metre-long and 4.2-metre-wide bridge will directly benefit around 50 lakh residents in the Kamrangirchar area. 
Approximately 70,000 people cross the bridge daily. 

The rapid overhaul of the dilapidated structure aims to remove severe public suffering and ensure pedestrian safety.

The Dhaka South administrator said the city corporation remains committed to ensuring smooth and safe movement for residents, noting that completing the project in record time with internal funds demonstrates this resolve.

To preserve this historic bridge in Kamrangirchar for future generations, initiatives have been taken to revise the eight-lane project, he said. 

The bridge will now remain open exclusively for pedestrians, he added.
