The central committee of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has expelled three leaders of its Rajshahi University unit and issued show-cause notices to six others over the alleged assault on journalists at the university.
The action was confirmed in two separate press releases signed by the organisation’s Office Secretary Jahangir Alam around 9pm today (5 October).
The expelled leaders are Rajshahi University unit Chhatra Dal Vice-President Ahsan Habib, Joint General Secretary Hasib Hasan and Bishal Chakraborty.
According to the expulsion notice, they were removed from their organisational posts and expelled from the primary membership of Chhatra Dal for violating organisational discipline.
Meanwhile, six other leaders of the RU unit were served show-cause notices over the same allegation.
They are Vice-Presidents Takbir Ahmed Emon, Bulbul Rahman, Shariful Islam and Faruk Hossain; Assistant Office Secretary Shahriar Alam; and Saju.
The six have been asked to appear at the central office within 48 hours and submit written explanations regarding the allegations of violating organisational discipline.
The notices said they must provide their explanations at the central office in the presence of the organisation’s central president and general secretary.
Journalists were allegedly assaulted at Rajshahi University last night. Following the incident, Chhatra Dal formed a two-member investigation committee later that night.
The central committee took the disciplinary measures following the investigation, according to the expulsion and show-cause notices.
