The Chattogram Port Authority has extended the operational tenure of Saif Powertec Limited at the Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT) by three weeks beyond the expiry of its existing contract, as the process of appointing a new operator is still underway.
In a letter issued yesterday (1 November), the port authority asked Saif Powertec to continue operating the terminal for another three weeks after its current contract expires on 2 November.
The letter, signed by the traffic officer (South Division) on behalf of the director of traffic, said the authority had decided to retain the company temporarily to ensure the continuation of terminal operations while the appointment process for a new operator remains ongoing.
The extension was approved by the competent authority, according to the letter.
Saif Powertec has been operating the CCT under an agreement signed with the port authority on 17 October 2019. According to the latest decision, the company will continue handling operations at the terminal during the transitional period until a new operator is appointed.
