Times critics, with the help of more than 250 experts, made their list of the 30 greatest living American songwriters. Now it’s your turn to choose.
When we asked more than 250 experts — musicians, critics, producers, D.J.s, industry legends and more — to help us start a list of the greatest living American songwriters, they came up with over 700 names to consider. It took weeks of heated debate for Times critics to boil those 700 names down to a final list of 30.
Now it’s your chance: Whom do you consider to be the greatest living American songwriters? You can submit up to 10 names below. To be eligible, artists have to be living and American.
We may reach out about your submission, but we will not publish any part of your response, except to count your selections toward a reader’s list, without contacting you first. Submissions may be edited and condensed for clarity.
We’ll keep this form open until 11:59 p.m. on May 5 and reveal readers’ choices soon after. To be notified when the reader list publishes, and to get the best stories and columns from the magazine, sign up for the New York Times Magazine newsletter.
