A case has been filed against 10 to 12 unidentified people after gunmen opened fire on a businessman’s moving car in Chattogram’s Hathazari Upazila.
No one was injured in the attack, but the vehicle’s window was shattered. Police recovered two bullet casings and pieces of bricks from the scene.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Hathazari Circle Kazi Md Tarek Aziz told The Business Standard that the victim, SM Shahidullah Rony, was returning to his home in Raozan from Chattogram city in his car when two men on a motorcycle threw bricks at the vehicle, forcing him to stop.
The attackers then fired four rounds at the rear of the car before fleeing the scene, he said.
However, no arrests have been made so far.
The incident took place at around 12am today (29 July) in the Rahimpur Charabottola area on the Hathazari-Raozan road under Mekhal union. The victim subsequently filed the case with Hathazari Model Police Station this afternoon.
According to police, Rony previously served as Chattogram bureau chief of Bijoy TV and is now involved in the real-estate and brick kiln business. Preliminary investigation has found that he had disputes with several individuals and groups in Raozan.
However, Rony said some miscreants had also attacked his house a few days earlier.
Police said the investigation is ongoing to identify those behind the attack.
