Police have arrested Mobarak Hossain alias David Emon, described by law enforcement as a top criminal in Chattogram, along with four of his associates from the Jhikargachha border area in Jashore.
They were arrested during an operation today (29 July) and are being brought to Chattogram, police said.
According to police, Emon is a widely known figure in Chattogram’s criminal underworld and faces accusations of criminal activities, extortion and involvement in firearms-related offences.
Law-enforcement agencies had long been conducting operations to arrest him. Police had monitored his movements for the past seven days before carrying out today’s operation.
Chattogram Superintendent of Police Md Masud Alam said Emon was arrested following prolonged surveillance and coordinated operations by multiple teams of the district police.
“I personally took part in the operation with a police team. David Emon and four of his associates were arrested on Wednesday morning. We are currently on our way to Chattogram with them from Jashore,” Masud told TBS.
He said police had simultaneously conducted another operation to arrest Raihan, one of Emon’s key associates.
“However, he fled after sensing the presence of police. He will also be brought to justice soon,” Masud added.
Masud said further details regarding the arrest of Emon and his associates would be disclosed at a press conference later.
