Bus parked beside highway police station set on fire in Faridpur

A bus of Purabasha Paribahan was set on fire by unidentified individuals while it was parked beside the Karimpur Highway Police Station in the Kanaipur area of Faridpur Sadar last night (18 September).

The incident took place at around 10:45pm on the Dhaka–Khulna Highway, according to residents and Fire Service sources.

The bus, which had been parked in front of the highway police station, suddenly caught fire. A unit of the Faridpur fire service reached the spot and brought the fire under control after about 20 minutes.

Sribas Baroi, fire service senior station officer, said the fire was extinguished, but the identity of those responsible for setting the bus on fire could not be determined immediately.

Following the incident, local BNP leaders and activists gathered at the scene. They alleged that activists of the activities-banned Awami League were behind the incident and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice.

Mahmudul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, said the bus had been involved in an accident and was lying abandoned beside the highway when unidentified individuals set it on fire.

“Police and fire service personnel reached the scene immediately after receiving the information and brought the situation under control,” he said.

The police are investigating the incident to identify those responsible, the OC added.
