Brad Pitt is no longer sober after spending seven years without drinking.
In a new interview with Esquire, Pitt has shared that he had remained sober for seven years but has since started drinking again. However, the consumption is much limited than before.
“In a more restrained manner. I got overconfident a couple times, went, ‘Yep, nope, not good for me,’” he explained in an Esquire interview published on Monday. “Not in big quantities. I have to be professional about it.”
Pitt also opened up about a difficult period in his life, describing a time when family struggles left him in deep emotional pain and with suicidal thoughts.
“The pain was so oppressive that—I wasn’t going to act on this—but I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief,” he added.
Pitt originally gave up drinking after a widely reported incident on a private plane in 2016, which was said to have played a role in the breakdown of his marriage to Angelina Jolie.
Jolie has claimed in legal documents that Pitt behaved abusively toward her and one of their children during the incident. The couple officially became single in 2019, and their divorce was finalised in 2024.
