BossMan Dlow’s Boisterous Boasts
On this edition of the “Popcast” Song of the Week, our critic Jon Caramanica breaks down a boastful party track from BossMan Dlow, who he calls “the funniest rapper working right now.”

Five hundred dollars to your name? That’s a goddamn shame. ♫ “Don’t hate the player hate me game.” ♫ ♫ “It’s a motion party you cannot get in.” ♫ Alright, so, BossMan Dlow is probably the funniest rapper working right now. A lot of it comes down to his vocal delivery. He has a way of dispensing these boasts with a kind of, like, “I can’t believe I just said that.” So his new song is called “Motion Party.” This is an up-tempo, exuberant, super fun party record. It’s from the album “Chicken Talkin Bastard.” This is his latest mixtape. He’s put out a bunch over the last few years. “Mr Beat the Road,” which came out in 2024, was one of my favorite albums of that year. His metaphors and similes are a little bit out there. “Chain like a slushy, wrist like a ice pack.” But don’t get it twisted, BossMan Dlow knows his history, too. He’s from Florida and this record samples a Florida classic. That’s “My Neck, My Back” by Khia. It’s mixed up with a little bit of New Orleans bounce twist. And what you end up with is this up-tempo party anthem that you feel like you’ve heard a hundred times before and you’ve got no problem hearing a hundred times more.
