Biman Bangladesh Airlines has formed an internal investigation committee to determine the cause of a technical glitch on the flight carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his entourage from Japan to Bangladesh.
Shahnur Ahmed, general manager of Biman’s public relations department, confirmed the development to The Business Standard (TBS) today (October 30).
The committee has been instructed to submit its report promptly.
“Whenever an incident of this nature occurs involving an aircraft, we form an internal investigation committee to learn the details. The committee has been formed following that procedure and will submit its report soon,” Shahnur said.
However, she said she is unaware of who will lead the committee.
According to Biman sources, the four-member committee has been asked to submit its findings to the airline’s managing director and chief executive officer.
The committee has been tasked with identifying the exact cause and nature of the aircraft’s technical malfunction, reviewing the measures taken to ensure its airworthiness and assessing the impact of the incident on flight schedules, passenger inconvenience and the airline’s institutional reputation.
Earlier, Biman flight BG 377, carrying the prime minister and his entourage, departed from Japan’s Narita International Airport about five and a half hours behind schedule due to the technical problem.
Biman’s engineering team, assisted by technicians in Japan, completed the necessary repairs.
