Government employees who have rented out or sublet their entire government-allotted flats or some of their rooms have been instructed to evict their tenants by tomorrow (31 October) and move into the allocated accommodation themselves.
The Directorate of Government Accommodation issued an urgent public notice yesterday (29 October), outlining the directive.
The notice further stated that failure to comply with the directive will result in cancellation of the housing allocation and legal action against the employees concerned.
According to the notice, recent inspection reports by the directorate found that some allottees had rented out entire flats or individual rooms, including one or two rooms, to other people.
Such practices violate the Bangladesh Allocation Rules, 1982, the notice said.
The directorate requested allottees under its jurisdiction not to sublet or rent out any portion of their government-allocated accommodation, whether an entire flat or one or more rooms.
Those who have already rented out their accommodation have been instructed to remove their tenants by 31 October and reside in the allocated premises in accordance with the rules.
The notice further warned, if any government accommodation is found to have been sublet or rented out after the deadline, the allotment will be cancelled without prior notice, and necessary punitive and legal action will be taken under the relevant rules.
In addition, under Rule 14(3) of the Bangladesh Allocation Rules, 1982, the allottee’s office head and appointing authority will be informed and requested to take disciplinary action against the employee concerned.
