Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has said it will not allow any push-in attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Satkhira border.
According to BGB, the BSF has gathered individuals described as “so-called Bangladeshi citizens” at the Hakimpur border area on the Indian side, opposite the Kakdanga border in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira.
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Ashikur Rahman, commanding officer of Satkhira 33 BGB, said patrols and surveillance had been intensified across the border area throughout the night.
“The BSF’s push-in activities are being resisted through strengthened patrols along the Satkhira border. Due to our alert position during night patrols, they did not make any attempt,” he said.
“It is assumed they may try to push them in through any point along the border. We are also on high alert. We will not allow this to happen,” he added.
Meanwhile, a Kolkata-based journalist, speaking on condition of anonymity, said around 110 Bangladeshis are currently being kept at a shelter home in the Hakimpur border area under Baduria Police Station in North 24 Parganas district.
According to the journalist, another 70 people joined the group this morning (27 May), raising the total number to around 180 individuals currently under BSF custody.
All of them were reportedly residing illegally in India.
BGB has further increased patrols and monitoring across the entire Satkhira border region.
