Police recovered the beheaded body of a seven-year-old child in the capital’s Mirpur area.
The body was found around 9am this morning (19 May) from the house of the child’s neighbour Sohel in section 11 of Pallabi in Mirpur, confirmed Emdadul Haque, inspector (investigation) of Pallabi Police Station.
According to police, the initial suspicions suggest that the 32-year-old Sohel raped and murdered the child. He has been absconding since the incident, though police have taken his wife into custody.
Emdadul said police recovered the body from the house after receiving a call via the emergency service number 999.
“The child’s head was initially missing but was later discovered inside a bucket in the house,” he said.
The inspector added that Sohel allegedly took the child to his flat when the opportunity arose. Investigators are verifying whether she was raped before being killed.
He further added that an inquest report has not yet been prepared. Police are working on the matter, and further details will be provided later.
