The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast that two to three mild to moderate heatwaves are likely to occur at isolated places over the country during June.
The forecast came from a meeting of the expert team on long-range weather forecasting held yesterday (1 June) at the Storm Warning Centre in Dhaka, according to a BMD bulletin.
Rainfall across Bangladesh is likely to remain below normal in June, while both day and night temperatures are expected to stay above average, the forecast said.
The bulletin also said there is a possibility of five to seven days of light to moderate thunderstorms this month.
It further predicted that one or two low-pressure systems are likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and one of them may intensify into a monsoon depression.
According to the bulletin, the country’s major rivers are likely to flow normally this month.
However, due to isolated heavy rainfall, the water levels of rivers in the northern, northeastern and southeastern parts of the country may increase temporarily, it added.
