Bangladesh has been unanimously elected as a member of the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Commonwealth Board of Governors for the 2026–28 term.
The Commonwealth Executive Committee comprises 16 members, including eight of the highest-contributing member states and eight elected representatives from four regional groups.
Bangladesh was elected from the Asia-Europe region during the Commonwealth Board of Governors meeting held on 20 May 2026 at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London.
Acting High Commissioner Dr Nazrul Islam represented Bangladesh at the meeting.
The Executive Committee is mandated to oversee matters related to finance, personnel, and administration of the Commonwealth Secretariat. It also makes policy recommendations to the Commonwealth Board of Governors.
In addition, the committee scrutinises the membership of new and accredited organisations (AOs) of the Commonwealth.
Bangladesh’s unanimous election to the Executive Committee reflects the country’s deep commitment, active contributions, and leadership role within the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth was notably the first international organisation Bangladesh joined following its independence.
