Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) have been deployed to assist Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) over reported attempts by Border Security Force (BSF) to push people into Bangladesh through Chapainawabganj border.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued today (6 June) by Md Ashikuzzaman, deputy director and public relations officer of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party.
According to the statement, Ansar-VDP members have been temporarily deployed in sensitive border areas of the district since Friday (5 June) to strengthen security and prevent any forced cross-border movements.
Initially, 33 skilled Ansar and VDP members with good knowledge of the local area have been deployed alongside BGB personnel at border outposts.
The official said locals possess the best understanding of the border’s geography and informal routes often used for movement across the frontier. The deployment aims to utilise this local knowledge to enhance surveillance and response capabilities.
They will immediately take preventive action upon noticing any suspicious movement along the border or upon receiving a call from the BGB, the statement added.
Tensions have persisted along the border in recent days amid reports of attempts to push people into Bangladesh from across the frontier, creating concern between the two neighbouring countries.
