ACC orders former additional SP Monirul, wife to submit wealth statements

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved orders requiring former Additional Superintendent of Police Md Monirul Islam and his wife, Zakia Parvin, to submit separate wealth statements over allegations of accumulating crores of taka through irregularities and corruption.

ACC Assistant Director Tanzir Ahmed of its public relations department disclosed the information today (17 September).

According to the ACC inquiry, Monirul has Tk5,79,373 in assets beyond his known sources of income. His wife, however, was found to have a discrepancy between her income and assets, but the assets were not classified as being beyond her known income.

Monirul’s movable and immovable assets are worth Tk1,96,93,225, while his total expenditure stands at Tk40,78,128, putting his total assets including expenditure at Tk2,37,71,353.

Against this, his acceptable income was calculated at Tk2,31,91,980, leaving Tk5,79,373 in assets beyond his known sources of income.

Zakia’s movable and immovable assets are worth Tk38,08,500, while her expenditure is Tk7,17,500, bringing her total assets including expenditure to Tk45,26,000.

Her acceptable income was calculated at Tk12,40,000, resulting in a shortfall of Tk32,86,000 when her income is compared with her assets and expenditure.

The ACC therefore did not classify her assets as being inconsistent with her known income, but approved an order requiring her to submit a wealth statement.

The ACC will issue separate orders against Monirul and Zakia under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
