The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved four separate cases against two former vice-chancellors and six other officials and teachers of the then Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU), now Gopalganj Science and Technology University.
The cases involve alleged irregular recruitment and promotions, concealment of documents and losses of about Tk3.53 crore to the government, ACC Public Relations Officer and Deputy Director Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed today (8 October).
The accused are former vice-chancellors Prof Khondoker Md Nasiruddin and Prof Khairul Alam Khan, former registrar Md Nuruddin Ahmed, Md Abdus Salam, acting registrar Morad Hossain, and assistant professors Taslim Ahammad, Md Akkas Ali and Nabid Aziz.
According to the ACC inquiry, recruitment for various posts, including in the CSE and Management Studies departments, allegedly violated university rules. Some recruits were later allegedly promoted irregularly to assistant professor and deputy registrar positions.
The inquiry also found allegations that important documents related to the recruitment and promotions were concealed or destroyed.
A two-member ACC team led by its headquarters Deputy Director Md Alamgir Hossain investigated the allegations. Following its report, the commission approved the four cases.
The cases will be filed under sections 409, 420 and 109 of the Penal Code, with sections 468, 471 and 201 where applicable, as well as Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
Separately, the ACC has approved a case against retired Rajuk high-grade assistant Selina Akter and Abdul Malek Mia for allegedly possessing about Tk1.31 crore in assets inconsistent with their known income.
The case will be filed under Section 27(1) of the ACC Act, 2004, and Section 109 of the Penal Code.
