Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) AKM Shamsul Islam has said the development of the domestic naval industry is crucial for safeguarding national security, naval strength and maritime interests.
“Domestic capability will be our main strength in strengthening maritime security,” he said while visiting the Narayanganj Dockyard operated by the Bangladesh Navy today (18 May).
During the visit, officials briefed the defence adviser on the dockyard’s overall activities, including shipbuilding and repair capabilities, modern technical facilities, infrastructure development, production operations, maintenance systems and ongoing development projects under the supervision of the Bangladesh Navy.
He later toured key installations, workshops, production areas, repair facilities and various ongoing development activities at the dockyard.
He stressed the need to transform Narayanganj Dockyard into a modern, efficient and advanced naval industrial facility by enhancing shipbuilding, repair and maintenance capabilities.
The adviser also emphasised ensuring quality, punctuality, technological efficiency and professionalism in every activity of the dockyard. He directed the authorities concerned to further enhance the institution’s capabilities through the use of modern technology, skilled manpower development through training and planned management.
He said the maximum use of local resources, expertise and technology must be ensured to strengthen the country’s defence preparedness.
Describing Narayanganj Dockyard as more than just a shipbuilding and repair facility, he said it was an important pillar of the country’s maritime capability, defence readiness and self-reliance.
He also praised the professionalism, dedication and efficiency of the dockyard’s officials, engineers, technical staff and employees, urging them to continue working with responsibility and patriotism.
Senior officials of the Bangladesh Navy and Narayanganj Dockyard were present during the visit.
