Police arrested six people in connection with a flash procession by banned organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League in the Wasa intersection area in Chattogram’s Khulshi yesterday (14 May).
In a press release issued today, Chattogram Metropolitan Police said several activists of Chhatra League, Awami League and its associate bodies were staging a procession and chanting anti-government slogans with the alleged intent to create panic and carry out sabotage activities.
Acting on information, a team from Khulshi Police Station led by Officer-in-Charge Md Arifur Rahman conducted a drive at the scene.
During the operation, police arrested Md Zahidul Islam Shipon, 27, Jobayer Alam, 30, Md Morshed Alam, 30, and Mominul Hasan Sagar, 19. Several others reportedly fled after sensing the presence of police.
Later, based on information obtained from the arrestees, police conducted further drives and arrested Abdul Majid Ali, 54, and Md Aminul Islam alias Sabbir, 30.
Police said cases have been filed against the six under the Anti-Terrorism Act, and they have been sent to court.
