Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members have arrested five people in Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar upazila over an alleged attack on three RAB personnel during an intelligence operation.
The arrests were made during overnight raids from yesterday (11 May) to this morning (12 May) in Khagatua village under Ratanpur union.
The information was disclosed at a press briefing today at the RAB-9 Brahmanbaria camp in South Pairatala by Company Commander Md Nur Nabi.
The detainees were identified as Abdul Kadir, 62, Rahim Ahmed, 20, Apu Mia, 19, Nur Alam, 19, and Chanowara Begum, 48. All are residents of Khagatua village.
According to RAB, members of the alleged “Shafik gang” detained and assaulted three RAB personnel-identified as Kajol, Malek and Rashed-in the village yesterday afternoon.
Nur Nabi said the three members of RAB-9’s intelligence branch were taken hostage and dragged to the gang’s hideout while they were collecting intelligence information in the area.
“They were later beaten, and one member suffered head injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon,” he said.
Other RAB personnel later rushed to the scene and rescued them.
The RAB official said a special drive was launched from last night to this morning to arrest those involved.
Although the alleged gang leader, identified as Shafik, managed to flee, five people-including a woman-were detained in connection with the attack.
RAB also recovered several locally made weapons during the operation, the official added.
