Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 has detained three individuals and recovered 1 lakh pieces of yaba concealed inside a CNG auto-rickshaw cylinder in Chattogram’s Banshkhali upazila.
The elite force made the seizure during an operation based on intelligence information, according to a press release issued today (4 May).
RAB said it had received information that a large consignment of yaba was being transported towards Chattogram city from the Cox’s Bazar border area using a CNG auto-rickshaw.
Acting on the tip-off, a team from RAB-7 set up a temporary checkpost in front of Banshkhali Mohila Degree College at around 4:30pm on 29 April.
When a suspected CNG reached the checkpost, its passengers attempted to flee. RAB members detained three individuals at the scene.
The detainees were identified as Md Selim Ullah, 43, Md Hasan Murad, 48, and Md Majid Alam alias Morjan, 35. All are residents of Moheshkhali upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
During a search of the vehicle, RAB recovered 1 lakh pieces of Yaba concealed using a special method inside the gas cylinder.
According to RAB, the estimated market value of the seized drugs is around Tk3 crore.
Legal action against the detained individuals is underway.
