Detective Branch (DB) of police have detained the wife and son of a fish trader in connection with the murder of Rofiqul Islam Rubel, who was found with his throat slit at his home at Singra upazila of Natore district.
The duo was detained from their residence today (4 May). They have been identified as the victim’s wife Shiuli Begum, and son Saifuddin Siddiq Royal.
Confirming the detentions, Natore DB Police officer-in-charge Nazrul Islam said a family dispute is suspected to have led to the killing. According to initial findings, an argument broke out between Rubel and his wife and son during dinner last night (3 May).
“Later, he went to a bedroom and fell asleep. In the morning, his throat-slit body was found lying on the bed. Family members raised an alarm, and locals informed police,” the officer said.
Later, police recovered the body and launched an operation to identify those involved.
Based on preliminary evidence, the victim’s wife and son were detained on suspicion of involvement in the killing.
Two other individuals have also been brought in for questioning, and police are investigating whether more people were involved.
Officials said initial evidence suggests the detainees’ involvement, though further investigation is ongoing.
