The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court is set to deliver its order next Sunday (3 May) on the government’s petition seeking a stay on a High Court order which granted bail to former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in five cases.
A bench led by senior justice Mohammad Ashfaqul Islam fixed the date for the order today (27 April).
Ivy was arrested around 3am on 9 May last year from Chunka Kutir in Deobhog. She was later shown arrested in several cases.
Although the High Court had earlier granted her bail in five cases, the Appellate Division stayed the order.
On 18 November, she was again shown arrested in five more cases.
On 26 February, a High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher granted her bail in those cases.
She was shown arrested in four of the five cases filed over the murder of bus driver Abul Hossain Miji, Abdur Rahman, Md Yasin and Parvez.
Another case, filed with Sadar Model Police Station, involves charges of assault and obstruction of government work.
The state subsequently filed a petition with the Appellate Division. On 5 March, the chamber court of the Appellate Division stayed the High Court’s bail order and referred the matter to a regular bench for hearing.
In the meantime, she has been shown arrested in two additional cases.
