A suspect accused of assaulting a sub-assistant engineer for questioning the quality of road construction work in Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar has been arrested from Chattogram, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said today (20 April).
The arrested individual, Md Billal Hossain, 55, was apprehended around 8:30pm yesterday (19 April) from Nur Ahmed Road in the Kazir Dewri area in Chattogram city during a joint operation by RAB-7 Chattogram and RAB-9 Sylhet, according to a press release.
RAB said the incident took place on 13 April when sub-assistant engineer Mirza Md Tarikul Islam, along with his colleagues, visited the Merakuta GC–Shibpur R&H road in Nabinagar upazila to inspect ongoing construction work.
During the inspection, the engineer reportedly found the road construction to be of substandard quality and summoned the contractor to question the work.
At that time, contractor Md Lokman Hossain, along with Billal Hossain and several unidentified individuals, allegedly attacked the engineer and his colleagues.
They allegedly used sticks and threw bricks, injuring the officials and obstructing them from carrying out government duties, reads the release.
Following the incident, Mirza Md Tarikul Islam filed a case with Nabinagar Police Station, naming the accused.
Acting on a tip-off, RAB identified Billal Hossain’s location and conducted the operation in Chattogram, leading to his arrest, the elite force said.
The arrested accused has been handed over to Chandgaon Police Station for further legal proceedings, it added.
