The prosecution has filed an application with the International Crimes Tribunal seeking to have two retired army generals shown arrested in cases involving allegations of enforced disappearances during the Awami League’s rule and killings linked to the July Uprising.
The application was submitted to International Crimes Tribunal-2 today (29 March), with a hearing scheduled for noon.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said the prosecution sought to show Lt Gen (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, former chief of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, arrested in a case over alleged enforced disappearances during the Awami League period and Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, a key “1/11” figure, in a separate case related to the July Uprising killings.
Earlier, on March 26, a Dhaka court placed Mamun on a five-day remand in a case over the murder of Delwar Hossain in the capital’s Mirpur area during the July Uprising.
Prior to that, on March 24, another Dhaka court placed Masud, a former lawmaker from Feni-3, on a five-day remand in a case accusing him of forming a syndicate, embezzling Tk24,000 crore and involvement in human trafficking.
